Current revision to the UK Skills Shortage Occupation List, November 2006
The British Work Permit Scheme focuses on three primary categories of "occupations in demand." These are skilled occupations that the United Kingdom has determined are required to fulfil needed tasks for a healthy economy:1.) Engineering occupations2.) Healthcare occupations3.) Other occupationsPeriodically the listing is updated to reflect changes in the workforce. Effective from 08 November until further notice, the following occupations may be used to apply for a skilled work permit to migrate to and work in the UK:
1.) Engineering occupations:Railway Engineers:Engineers who are required to have a degree and at least 2 years relevant experience from a civil, structures or electrical background in the following specialisms: Railways Planner or Engineer
Railways Modeller
Railway Track Design or Permanent Way Engineer
Communications Engineer
Power Supply Engineer or Electrification Engineer
Structural/Bridge Engineers:Engineers who are required to have a degree and at least 2 years relevant experience from a structures background in the following specialisms: Structural Engineer
Infrastructure Engineer or Buildings Engineer
Bridge Engineer or Highways Structural Engineer
Transportation and Highways Engineers:Engineers who are required to have a transport-related degree, or a degree and at least 2 years relevant experience from a civil background in the following specialisms: Traffic Engineer or Transport Planner
Transport Modeller or Transport Economist
Traffic Signal Engineer
Highways Design Engineer or Highways Planning Engineer
Highways Maintenance Engineer
Ground Engineering: Geoenvironmental Engineer
Geotechnical Engineer
Geological Advisor
Geological Analyst
Geological Associate
Geological Engineer
Geologist / Hydrogeologist
Geology / Reservoir Engineer
Geomechanics Engineer
Geophysical Specialist
Geophysicist
Geoscientist
Geosupport Engineer
Engineering Geologist
Ground Engineer
Contaminated Land Specialist
